At MTC Rugby our materials engineers have a unique understanding of the qualities and properties of high purity Alumina, Zirconia toughened Aalumina and stabilised Zirconia. This knowledge, combined with our methodology of working closely with customers has led to the use of these materials in diverse applications within medical, defence and energy sectors.
Aluminium Oxide (A12O3 – Alumina)
With excellent mechanical and chemical resistance as well as impressive electrical properties, we regularly utilise Aluminium Oxide for applications within a variety of industries. This high purity Alumina (ranging from 95%-99.99%) is particularly effective in the metalizing process, can be engineered with a physical or chemical coating and in the highest purity is especially suited to medical applications such as surgical implants.
Zirconia (ZrO2)
Known for properties such as extreme hardness, fracture toughness at room temperatures and excellent surface finishes Zirconia (ZrO2) is suitable for a range of applications. At MTC Rugby we blend Zirconia with numerous stabilising compounds such as Magnesium Oxide, Calcium Oxide and Yttria which help to toughen the impact resistance of the material whilst enhancing other properties. Our stabilised Zirconia is therefore suited to challenging environments and has been utilised in medical and defence applications; for instance, within ballistic components and vehicle armour.
Composite Materials
Our material engineers are able to find solutions through combining their knowledge of Alumina and Zirconia with the intricacies of the blending process. The result is stabilised Zirconia, high purity alumina and Zirconia toughened Aalumina products that perform excellently in intense, challenging environments.
