The ceramics specialist worked with University of Hull (UK) spin out company, Avoco Medical Ltd, on a speech-restoration project for patients with throat cancer.

Leading manufacturer of ceramic components Morgan Technical Ceramics is working with University of Hull spin out company, Avoco Medical Ltd, on a pioneering speech-restoration project for patients with throat cancer. The company is taking to market a new patent-protected speech valve that uses zirconia ceramic components which enable valve life to increase, resulting in less frequent valve changes for patients. This improves quality of life for patients and reduces cost to healthcare providers.

Morgan Technical Ceramics has introduced a new yellow glaze (GSY) for ceramic reflectors that improves efficiency of laser systems by filtering out UV and low wavelengths in laser pumping cavities. This reduces the overall temperature of the laser system and increases its life. It is suited to industrial lasers used in manufacturing and as a result end users can benefit from a reduced cost of ownership.
